Momentum Development has operated since 2002 under the leadership of its founder, Jim Bowen. Jim has nearly twenty years of experience as a consultant, attorney, principal investor, and manager. His primary focus has been on the energy sector, but he has also worked with companies in banking and financial services, manufacturing, chemicals, and information technology. Jim has worked on five continents and has advised businesses of every size, from the world’s largest businesses to start-ups.
Jim is a graduate of the Harvard Law School (J.D., cum laude), the University of London (M.Sc. in Financial Management, with merit), and the U.S. Military Academy (B.S. in Economics). Since 2006, Jim has been on the Advisory Board of Tauber Oil Company, a privately-held trader of petroleum products. He spent six years with McKinsey and Company, the world’s leading consultancy, and has been a Senior Advisor on contract to McKinsey since 2002. He is a member of the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators, a Patron Councillor of the Atlantic Council, and a member of several other organizations. Recently, Momentum Development has been engaged in providing advice to the Ministry of Mines of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, helping Afghanistan market and develop its oil and gas resources. Jim is leading a cross-functional tender team that has brought to market one offering of about 80 million barrels of proved reserves and another 80 million barrels of probable resources located in the Amu Darya Basin of northern Afghanistan. Future offerings may include the resources of the Afghan-Tajik Basin (which is believed to have about 1.6 billion barrels of crude oil) and gas blocks in northern Afghanistan (which are believed to have about 16 trillion cubic feet of gas and 500 million barrels of condensates).
Momentum Development frequently works in partnership with, or as a subcontractor to, other consultancies that desire to add the specific skills that Momentum Development brings. Momentum Development also has in the past placed compensation at risk in exchange for equity in projects or acquisitions, remaining involved in managing the project special purpose vehicle.
